SMVS believes that serving the nation and society is a core responsibility. Guided by Gurudev Bapji and HDH Swamishri, SMVS actively supports humanitarian and educational causes alongside its spiritual work.
In line with the "Vachanamrut Dwi Shatabdi Mahotsav" celebrations, SMVS launched a large-scale sanitation campaign inspired by the national "Swachh Bharat" (Clean India) movement, introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to improve public hygiene and sanitation.
On October 26, 2014, HDH Swamishri personally pledged to support the campaign—not just symbolically, but through real action. He committed to cleaning 200 public areas across India and encouraged everyone to participate actively.
The campaign was organized across 10 zones throughout western and central India. Over 5,900 volunteers, including women and children, helped clean more than 114 public places, ranging from large cities to small villages. Each center strategically planned and executed their events, making the campaign a wide-reaching success.
Environmental protection is everyone’s responsibility, and SMVS takes this duty seriously through extensive tree plantation efforts. Every year on June 5—World Environment Day—SMVS organizes massive tree-planting events.
They also run a "Tree Adoption Program," where participants not only plant trees but also take personal responsibility for nurturing them. Through this initiative, over 200,000 trees have been planted and maintained.
Additionally, SMVS emphasizes the development of green zones within its campuses to combat pollution and global warming. These areas serve as vibrant examples of sustainable planning and biodiversity preservation.
Animals are essential to our environment and economy. Under the guidance of Gurudev Bapji, SMVS actively supports animal care through livestock breeding programs, grain and fodder distribution, and veterinary health camps.
During extreme droughts—especially the severe one in 2001—SMVS extended its care to thousands of cattle. The organization provided over 232,000 kilograms of grass and 194,000 kilograms of grain, aiding nearly 7,000 animals across 120 villages in Panchmahal and Banaskantha.
These efforts helped protect rural livelihoods by safeguarding the livestock on which many families depend. SMVS continues to operate a "Gaushala" (cattle shelter) where modern methods are used for animal care. Waste is also recycled into natural fertilizers, promoting eco-friendly farming practices.
SMVS is committed to sustainable living and energy conservation. Solar panels have been installed at Swaminarayan Dham in Gandhinagar to power lights and heat water efficiently. Several other SMVS centers and temples have adopted similar solar energy systems.
In addition, SMVS promotes:
● Use of renewable energy sources
● Energy-efficient living
● Public transportation
● Rainwater harvesting and water conservation
● Reforestation and tree-planting initiatives
● A goal of 0% carbon emissions
Through these practical actions, SMVS sets a leading example of how spiritual organizations can contribute meaningfully to environmental protection and climate responsibility.
