Principles

Along with upholding an elevated level of knowledge and principles, it is equally important to take care of several spiritual and social values. Religious respect, courtesy, and humanity are fundamental values the SMVS organization is active on. All the individuals who become a part of this organization are given the inspiration to accept and follow these ideals. Through these ideals, all individuals can enjoy the true happiness of life by improving their speech, behavior, thoughts, and virtues.

To ensure that the lives of all devotees become pure and filled with character, Bhagwan Swaminarayan has given His followers the five main commandments.

  1. The vow of celibacy states that males should not associate in any way with females, other than their wives, in a lustful manner. The same applies to females.
  2. Keep an addiction-free life.
  3. Consume a pure diet under the sanitary rules stated in the scriptures.
  4. Live with honesty and morality.
  5. Live a transparent life.
  6. Live with satisfaction.
  7. Keep actions pure and pious.
  8. Always speak the truth.
  9. Perform selfless acts for the benefit of all.
  10. Firmly follow the commandments.
  11. Portray kindness, love and mercy towards all living-beings.
  12. Be united and respect your family members.
